Cycling stops in Beartooth

1 route · Montana & Wyoming, United States

The Beartooth Highway climbs out of Red Lodge through a glacial headwall of switchbacks to 3,337 m on the Montana–Wyoming line, then stays up on the plateau among alpine lakes before dropping toward Yellowstone. It opens for a short season each summer and carries snowbanks at the roadside well into July.

Forty-eight kilometres of continuous climbing, and one of the very few roads in the lower 48 that will take a bicycle above 3,300 metres.
