Cycling stops in Maui
1 route · Hawaii, United States
Maui is one climb, and the climb is enormous. Haleakalā runs from the beach at Pāʻia to 3,055 m at the crater rim in 58.8 km of continuous pavement, the largest paved ascent in the world by gain. There is no col to crest and no valley in the middle; the road climbs through the old cane country, then Makawao's ranchland and eucalyptus, then switchbacks over bare volcanic rock above the cloud line until the air runs thin at the top.
