St. Marien am Behnitz was built in 1847-48 for Belgian Catholic gunsmiths brought to Spandau's arms factories by Friedrich Wilhelm I, the second-oldest Catholic church in greater Berlin after St. Hedwig's Cathedral. Architect August Soller, a student of Schinkel, gave it a three-aisled Romanesque Revival design. Later a garrison church and damaged in the war, it was privately restored after 2001 and now hosts concerts and exhibitions alongside services.
