veloCAFÉ

Café · Kroměříž · Czechia

Checked

veloCAFÉ fills the arcaded ground floor of a 17th-century house on Kroměříž's Grand Square, a family-run café built around top-quality espresso, homemade desserts from traditional recipes, and wines from Moravia, Austria and Italy. The owner is an active racer who co-organized the veloCafé TT time trial, and the building's original cellar still hosts wine tastings.

Lenka and Zbyněk Vondruškovi run the place with pastry chef Gabriela, who has been turning out the cakes and quiches almost since the doors opened. The coffee comes from small Czech roasters, among them La Bohéme, Doubleshot and Coffee Source, pulled as espresso or brewed slower in a French press or V60. Downstairs, the cellar bar is stocked with Cidre99, a cider made in nearby Roštín, alongside spirits and the wine list. Take a seat under the square's own arcade and, on the right evening, a cimbalom band or an impromptu jam session might be playing a few tables over. You do not need to arrive by bike, though the café makes clear that cyclists are exactly who it was built for.
