Melicharovo muzeum

Housed in the former town hall (house no. 1) right on Unhošť's main square, this small museum rewards a quick stop if you're rolling through town. It was founded in 1912, when the town handed over a room to display collections gathered by local teacher František Melichar (1842–1925), who had assembled the region's folk artifacts for Prague's 1895 Ethnographic Exhibition of Czechoslovakia. The first-floor permanent exhibition covers prehistoric archaeological finds from the Unhošť area, guild and craft-history relics, Sokol-movement and theatre memorabilia, and paintings by regional artists, with hands-on displays letting visitors try grain milling and writing on wax and slate tablets. Since 1990 the museum has also published its own regional journal, Listy z Unhošťska. It is directed today by Mgr. Marian Krucký.
