Checked
A revived 1710 brewery whose garden and taproom are a fixture for cyclists riding out from Prague, pouring Únětice beer straight from the tank alongside honest Czech cooking.
The inn's beer garden, seating around 110 people beside the old malt house, has become a regular stop for cyclists and hikers riding out from Prague, alongside families and weekend day-trippers. Beer has been brewed on this site since at least 1557, when Únětice canons supplied it to St Vitus Cathedral, and the current brewery traces its founding to 1710, a date still cut into a stone pillar in the old malting barn. By the late 19th century it had grown into the third largest brewery in the Smichov district, its beer good enough that it was smuggled by night into a Smichov restaurant and served to customers as genuine Pilsner. Production stopped in 1942 and the brewery was nationalised after the war, standing idle for decades until the Tkadlec family from nearby Roztoky revived it, brewing the first new batch in May 2011. Today the taproom pours Únětice beer straight from the tank, with a simple, fresh Czech kitchen and a plum lemonade that has its own following.
