Červený Újezd

Castle · Unhošť · Czechia

Checked

You'll spot this turreted, moat-ringed castle rising oddly among the fields west of Prague, it looks centuries old but was built entirely in 2001–2002. Owner Pavel Orna, a collector for over 40 years, designed it as a deliberately "historicizing" structure using traditional crafts rather than restoring any real ruin, blending Gothic windows and galleries, Renaissance painted ceilings and sgraffito, and Baroque details. Inside, it now houses a folk-life museum of roughly 4,000 artifacts gathered from Czech and Slovak villages, illustrating rural life from the 17th to early 20th century. The grounds extend into a small open-air skanzen with a windmill, bell tower, granary, wine cellar and smithy, plus a botanical garden of over 1,000 plant species. It's a privately run, commercial curiosity, part theme castle, part museum, that closes to visitors during weddings and other rented events.

From Wikipedia
