What leaves the device, and what it is used for.

The Karoo app works without a sign-in. What it sends, it sends under a random device id created on the device, not linked to your name or your Karoo’s serial number.

Building a waybook sends the shape of your loaded route to our server; that is how the places along it are found. Nearby, while you have it on, sends your position so the app can answer what is around you.

During the beta the app also sends diagnostics: what it did, errors, and the position and speed at the moment of each event, so bugs can be found from a distance. Over a ride that adds up to a trace of where you were. The switch in Settings turns it off, and the app works fully without it. Diagnostics land in a private database and are read to fix the app, for nothing else.

Nothing is sold and nothing is shared with third parties. The website keeps cookie-free aggregate page counts.
