Banc de Sóller

Building · Sóller · Mallorca

Checked

This modernist facade on Sóller's central Plaça de la Constitució was rebuilt in 1910–1912 by Joan Rubió i Bellver, a disciple of Antoni Gaudí, giving the square a Gaudinian look to match his adjoining Sant Bartomeu church. Financed by Sóller emigrants who'd returned wealthy from France and the Americas, it features a rough-hewn stone facade, wrought-iron balconies with a circular gallery, and a carved lion on its corner. It now houses a Banco Santander branch.
