Checked

Cycling Planet is a bike shop, workshop, and café on Alaró's main street, run since 2012 by former track cycling world champion David Muntaner and his wife Laura. It's known for specialty coffee and homemade cakes served amid cycling memorabilia and signed cyclists' photos, with furniture made from reclaimed Siberian pine. For riders it also offers on-site bike repairs and rental, bike-rack space out front, and outdoor seating on a quiet road, a regular gathering point for cyclists passing through Alaró.

David Muntaner runs the place with his wife Laura, and it doubles as a monument to his own career on the track: he won Madison gold with fellow Balearic rider Albert Torres at the 2014 World Championships in Cali, after taking Madison silver in Minsk the year before, and rode the team pursuit for Spain at the Beijing and London Olympics before retiring into the shop. Coffee is ground to order, and the workshop rents out road, gravel and e-bikes from Trek, Cinelli and Orbea, so a rider can turn up without a bike and leave on one to ride the climbs around Alaró. Tostadas round out the food on offer. It has kept its place on Alaró's main street for well over a decade, working as much as a stop for riders threading through the Tramuntana as an ordinary neighbourhood café for the village itself.

What you see

The rainbow bands of a world champion's jersey run through the place, worked into the coffee machine and the crockery on every table.
