Cases de Neu are the ruins of snow houses in the Coma de n'Arbona pass, high in Mallorca's Serra de Tramuntana. Up to four such stone structures once stored packed winter snow to supply ice through the summer, a practice that lasted centuries. The pass traps cold air and holds some of Mallorca's heaviest snowfalls, so the crumbling walls beside the road mark a genuine relic of pre-refrigeration island life.
