Cycling stops in Girona

No town in Europe has more pros per capita. Girona's old quarter is where the WorldTour lives between races, and its café scene was built by the riders themselves: Christian Meier's La Fábrica and Espresso Mafia, Robert Gesink's Hors Catégorie, and La Comuna.

Ride out and the classics start immediately: the Els Àngels loop with its summit sanctuary restaurant, Rocacorba for the long test, the coastal roads of the Gavarres.

Grava Pals

Girona

Grava Pals is a bike café and restaurant in the village of Pals, built around the local cycling community. It runs on specialty coffee, natural wine and craft beer, with a Mediterranean menu of shared tapas, burgers and wood-fired pizza served from a wide terrace. It opens for breakfast and brunch through to dinner with sunset drinks. Sitting on the region's network of gravel routes, it functions as a rest stop for riders refuelling mid-ride or unwinding after one.

Grava was built specifically for the cycling community from the outset; its founder, Manich, has described it as 'a refreshment point, a restaurant and an oasis to rest during the ride, or to come and disconnect in the middle of nature.' The café sits beside the old walled centre of Pals, and road and gravel riders in kit mix through the day with locals off duty. Beyond the daily coffee and food service, Grava runs yoga classes and sunset gravel bike rides, announced on its Instagram rather than a fixed schedule. A dedicated wood-fired Neapolitan pizza area and an expanded breakfast menu were added as the place grew.
