Specialty coffee bar and roastery on Carrer de la Cort Reial in Girona's old town, opened in 2016 by retired WorldTour pro Christian Meier and his wife Amber, the couple behind La Fábrica. Beans are roasted on site, the only in-house roaster in Girona, and poured as espresso, Aeropress, V60 or batch brew. More stand-up coffee bar than lounge, it is where the town's riders come to buy their beans.
Christian Meier taught himself to roast while still riding in the WorldTour, and when demand at La Fábrica outgrew the café, the roasting side became its own place in 2016. Where La Fábrica is the cosy cycling café, Espresso Mafia is white, light and coffee-first, more bar than lounge, with the roasting room behind a door off the counter. The roastery now supplies cafés in Girona and as far away as Jakarta, Portland and Vienna, and a tasting flight serves three coffees three ways.
Practical
A compact coffee bar rather than a lounge, with limited seating. Espresso plus Aeropress, Kalita, V60 and batch brew, cakes at the counter, and freshly roasted beans bagged to take away.
