Liebesinsel is a small island in the Spree at Rummelsburg Bay, formed as ice-age valley sand ground. Protected since 1999, it shelters beavers, otters, and nesting woodpeckers and tits, and bats overwinter in a cellar left from a restaurant that operated here until the Second World War. Landing by boat is banned to protect its plants and wildlife.
