Stanton Drew Circles And Cove
Bristol
Stanton Drew holds England's third-largest complex of prehistoric standing stones, far less visited than Stonehenge or Avebury. The Great Circle, 113 metres across with 27 surviving stones, is Britain's second-largest stone circle, raised around 2500 BC as a ceremonial henge. In the adjoining pub garden, three stones called the Cove predate the circles by a thousand years, likely the entrance to a chambered tomb.
