Eetcafe on the first floor of the Sven Nys Cycling Center on the Balenberg in Baal, run personally by the retired cyclocross champion and his partner Anneke since they reopened it in January 2025 after a full restyling. French-Belgian dishes make it a natural stop for cyclists and walkers exploring the Balenberg.
The eetcafe existed on the Balenberg before Nys took it over: previous operators Ann Roosen and Wim Michiels ran it until they left to focus on their own brasserie, De Vijvers, in Averbode. Nys called the takeover the last missing piece of his cycling center, but he does not cook: he leads the operation with Anneke and kept the existing kitchen team in place while adding some dishes of his own to the menu. The kitchen serves French-Belgian dishes made with top-quality ingredients, pitched as the stop for cyclists and walkers to recharge with a meal or a post-ride beer. Downstairs, a multipurpose hall hosts business seminars, meetings and workshops, and the venue takes bookings from family gatherings to larger events.

Several terraces step off the first-floor eetcafe, catching the sun with a wide view over the whole Balenberg hillside.

Open Wednesday to Sunday (Wed-Thu 11:30-21:00, Fri 11:30-22:00, Sat 10:00-22:00, Sun 10:00-21:00), closed Monday and Tuesday. The kitchen runs continuously through those hours with no afternoon gap.
