Built 1844-1847 in Neo-Byzantine style on a Greek-cross plan by architects Marczewski and Gołoński, this Orthodox church at ul. Słowackiego 15 traces to Greek merchants who settled in Piotrków Trybunalski and secured a royal privilege for a parish in 1764. Russian architect Ivan Shtrem enlarged it in 1867-1869, adding a nave and tower; its wooden iconostasis, with icons by Alexander Kokular, came from Saint Petersburg.
Greek Orthodox merchants who had settled in Piotrków from Macedonia worshipped from 1788 in the attic of a private house on what is now Plac Czarnieckiego, before the congregation could build a church of its own. The 1844-1847 church held a wooden iconostasis with twelve icons by the Polish painter Aleksander Kokular and was consecrated on 28 November 1848. Ignacy Markiewicz financed the 1867-1869 rebuilding that Ivan Shtrem designed, which turned the Greek-cross plan into a Latin cross and extended the walls seven metres on three sides. A new gilded iconostasis carved by Serebriakov, with icons by the Petersburg painter Wasiljew, replaced Kokular's original when the church was reconsecrated on 9 December 1870.
