Łódź grew in one century out of a village into a textile city, and it still reads that way from a bike: mill buildings, workers' housing and factory-owners' palaces along one long street, with the ground almost perfectly level underneath. Riding out of it is a matter of picking a direction: the Łagiewniki forest sits inside the northern edge of the city, and the roads north run through farmland toward the Bzura and the old collegiate town of Łęczyca.

The one relief nearby is east, where a moraine ridge gives the only sustained gradients within an hour of the centre. South-east the Pilica runs between pine woods toward the Sulejów reservoir.

Przędza is a café set in a courtyard off Piotrkowska 107 in central Łódź, running since 2014. It has built a following among specialty-coffee drinkers for alternative brewing methods such as drip, Chemex and Aeropress, alongside homemade cakes and panini. The interior pairs an industrial shell with a garden courtyard used for outdoor seating in summer. Opening from 9am on weekdays, it works as an early coffee stop for a rider passing through central Łódź.

Regulars and reviewers rate it among Łódź's best cafés, with an average of 4.7 out of 5 across more than 1,200 reviews, and the courtyard keeps the noise of Piotrkowska Street outside. Przędza opened here at the end of 2014, taking over the same courtyard spot that had run before it as Fresco Cafe. The kamienica itself went up in the 1890s for textile merchant Salomon Baharier, its facade still carrying carved mascaron faces, eagles and swans among the ornament. The same courtyard today also holds a tailoring studio, a bistro and a tattoo parlour.

Before Przędza, the same building held woollen, silk and plush workshops, a corset maker's studio and a confectionery, part of the textile trade that gave the café its name (przędza is Polish for yarn) and its thread-draped interior.
