Hochschloss Pähl

Castle · Munich

Checked

Hochschloss Pähl crowns a ridge roughly 100 metres above the Ammer valley and Lake Ammer, a site held by regional nobility since the Middle Ages for its commanding position between the lake, Weilheim and the old Pfaffenwinkel trade routes. Ernst Oswald Czermak bought the property in 1882, cleared the old castle's ruins, and had Munich architect Albert Schmidt build the current romantic-style villa, finished in 1885. It remains privately owned and closed to visitors.
