Schmied-von-Kochel-Denkmal
Munich
This fountain-monument on Lindwurmstraße is topped by the figure of the Schmied von Kochel, a blacksmith who became a legendary leader of the Bavarian peasants who rose against Habsburg occupation in 1705. It marks the Sendlinger Mordweihnacht, the bloody Christmas Eve battle of that uprising. Built between 1905 and 1911 by architect Carl Sattler and sculptor Carl Ebbinghaus, it rises above a fountain at street level.
