Radom Raisting houses Germany's first commercially operated satellite earth station, built in 1963/64 to plans by Hans Maurer for the Federal Post Office. Its 49-metre air-supported dome protected a 25-metre parabolic antenna that carried the first moon landing broadcast, the 1972 Munich Olympics and a Cold War hotline between Washington and Moscow. Decommissioned in 1985, it is now a protected industrial monument.
