St. Josef in Holzkirchen replaced an earlier 1962 church nicknamed "Zelt Gottes" (Tent of God) for its tent-shaped roof, which was torn down in 2014 after structural failure. Munich architect Eberhard Wimmer won the 2013 design competition with two blunt timber cones echoing the moraine hill and the Alpine skyline beyond, and the new church was consecrated in 2018.
