A marquis's European castlePere Caro Álvarez de Toledo, Marquès de la Romana, and his Hungarian wife Elisabeth Széchenyi Zichi-Ferraris rebuilt the estate as a neo-Gothic castle between 1855 and 1867, copying the grand castles of central Europe.
The collection sold offIn 1999 the castle's owners auctioned one of Mallorca's most important private art collections, around 240 paintings gathered across generations of owners.
PracticalNo public entry: it now operates as a private wedding and events venue, not a museum to walk into.
