Barcelo's ceramic chapelIn 2007 the Mallorcan artist Miquel Barcelo finished a chapel built entirely of ceramic clay, five years in the making. The relief follows the miracle of the loaves and the fishes.
Gaudi's unfinished canopyAntoni Gaudi redrew the cathedral's interior from 1903, hanging a seven-sided canopy with a crucifix and lamps over the altar. Disputes with the builders, then the bishop's death in 1915, ended the project unfinished.
PracticalThe cathedral sits directly on Palma's dedicated seafront cycle path, part of the 12 km route along the Passeig Marítim between Porto Pi and El Arenal, so a rider passes right beneath the building without leaving the bike lane. Cycling is not permitted on the old-town streets immediately around the cathedral itself, so the final stretch to the doors is on foot.
