Secëda - Monte Seceda
Peak · 2519 m · Dolomites
Checked
Grass pasture runs flat to a sudden edge, and past the drop a row of bare limestone needles stands up clear of the meadow. A cable car from Ortisei reaches the upper station in a few minutes and the viewpoint above Val Gardena is a short walk from there, which is why it fills through the middle of the day.
Seceda takes its name from the Latin siccus, meaning dry, while the peaks along its northern edge belong to the Odle group, whose Ladin name means needles. The plateau's southern flank opens into gentle alpine pasture, thick with wildflowers through the summer. Photographers climb up before dawn or stay past sunset to catch the light on those peaks, once the crowds that fill the viewpoint through midday have thinned. A cable car lifts visitors from Ortisei to the upper station in a few minutes, leaving a short walk to the main viewpoint above Val Gardena.
What you see
Grass pasture ends in a sudden edge, with a row of bare limestone needles rising directly beyond the drop.
Practical
Mountain biking is banned inside the Puez-Odle Nature Park that covers much of the summit area. E-bike-friendly forest roads from Cristauta above Santa Cristina and from Juac above Selva stay open outside the park boundary.
