Director Jiří Menzel scouted around 150 small Czech breweries before choosing Dalešice as the setting for Postřižiny, his 1980 adaptation of Bohumil Hrabal's novella about a brewery manager's family in the First Republic. The brewery had already stopped brewing three years earlier, its water source dried up and its equipment worn out, and it sat empty through the following decade, vandalized and slated by the local council for demolition. The film's fame changed that outcome: a group of young Brno entrepreneurs who admired Postřižiny bought the derelict complex at auction in 1999. They spent three years restoring the brewhouse and reopened it as a working brewery in 2002, twenty-five years after production had stopped. Beer is brewed on-site again, alongside a restaurant and hotel, and the brewery still trades on its film-set history with tours through the brewing process and a Postřižiny-themed festival.
