Jurkovičova rozhledna

Observation tower · Czechia

Checked

Jurkovičova rozhledna stands on Karlův kopec at 480m, on the eastern edge of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, overlooking Valašské muzeum v přírodě. Climb it for views across the valley and the museum's traditional buildings below.

The builders were bound by an unusual rule: every piece of timber in the frame had to be over 100 years old, matching the age of Jurkovič's original 1896 drawings. Construction ran from October 2010 to December 2011, and the tower was ceremonially opened on 28 April 2012, commissioned originally for the Tourist Association in Valašské Meziříčí. Folk-architecture detailing runs through all seven floors, finished with hand-forged copper elements and a specially designed spire. The viewing platform sits at 18.8m, roughly two-thirds of the tower's 31.09m height, looking out over Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Hutisko, and Vigantice, with the Beskydy hills filling the horizon.
