Bumbálka
Pass · 870 m · Czechia
Checked
At 870 m, this pass on the Czech–Slovak border carries the main European watershed and the E442 road. Nearby is a point in Czechia furthest from any sea.
The Moravian side of the border once had its own checkpoint right at the pass, along with a mountain hotel and a ski lift; the Slovak checkpoint stands several hundred meters lower down the slope. That crossing is gone now, and both sides of the pass have settled into a shared recreation area. A red-marked hiking trail follows the ridge here, continuing northeast from Makovský průsmyk, and a ski-touring route traces the same crest. A separate nature trail connects Bumbálka to Makovský průsmyk further south. South of the pass, on Slovak ground, the Trojačka stream rises, one of the headwaters of the Kysuca river.
What you see
The road crosses a shallow saddle in the main ridge, framed by the summits of Beskydok and Beskyd.
