What it’s like to ride
The road leaves the Svratka valley at Prudká, where the Sokolí skála reserve holds the slopes on both sides of the river beside the railway station, and heads up the old road between Doubravník and Lomnice that was cut through here in the 1920s. It is long and shallow rather than hard: asphalt throughout, around 300 metres of gain at a bit over 2%, which is still enough for riders around Brno to count it among the biggest sustained climbs within 50 km of the city. Běleč arrives first, with a shop opposite the chapel, then Křeptov, which has the pub, and between the two villages sits a fire tank that people swim in. Above them the forest takes over: the beech and maple remnants of Míchovec with their rock outcrops, then the reserve below the Sýkoř gamekeeper's lodge. The lodge stands at 642 m, with the Sýkořská lime behind it, over 200 years old. Sýkoř itself, 702 m and the roof of the Tišnov country, is beech old growth up to 250 years old around a fenced 40 m relay mast you cannot go up, so the views are the ones you take on the way, out over Osiky and into the Besének valley.
