Riders come here for the altitude record as much as the food: this is the highest-situated bakery in its municipality in the Czech Republic, at 1065 meters, sitting where the region's tourist, ski and cycling trails cross in the heart of Šumava. The business started as a bakery and added a brewery in 2011, when owner Karel Potužák bought equipment originally meant for another microbrewery and teamed up with brewer Jan Benada; their first batch was served in April 2012. The beers, Osmerák, Kvildské výčepní and Dvanácterák among the regulars, with occasional stronger brews like Galapetr and Rankl Sepp, are poured in U Galapetra, the beer hall built alongside the original bakery and pension. The bakery side turns out bread, beer rolls, doughnuts and blueberry frgál, but the specialty people ask for by name is povidloň, a dessert of choux pastry piled with plum spread, curd, yogurt and sour cream. Thirty years running, it has become one of the best-known stops on the Šumava plateau for anyone crossing it on two wheels.
