Riders rolling into Beroun's old town from the Plzeň direction pass straight beneath this tall gate tower, one of the two surviving medieval towers of the town's walls. Built in the early 14th century under King Wenceslaus II as the 'Horní brána' (Upper Gate) on the main Plzeň–Prague road, it collected tolls from that route right up until 1842. A clock with a Czech-style orloj dial was fitted in 1508, then replaced after a fire wrecked the tower in 1735 with a German two-dial clock by craftsman F. Gärtner during the 1736–37 Baroque rebuild that gave it its ribbed lantern roof. Its facade still carries an 1876 painting, 'Chronos and Moira', by Prague artist Wilhelm B. Preise. Inside, the tower now houses the Muzeum Českého krasu, with original fortification plans and the old clock mechanisms on display.

Plzeňská brána (též Horní brána) se nachází ve středočeském městě Berouně a je součástí zdejšího městského opevnění. Stojí západně od náměstí, uprostřed západní strany městského opevnění v Palackého ulici. Díky své výšce sloužila také jako obranná hláska. Brána je zapsána v Ústředním seznamu nemovitých kulturních památek ČR jako součást berounského opevnění a nachází se na území městské památkové zóny. Ve věži je umístěna expozice Muzea Českého krasu.
