Cafelier No. 523
Café · Kostelec na Hané · Czechia
Checked
A cafe and confectionery in a converted house in Kostelec na Hane, opened by former teacher Marketa Rozsivalova on Friday the 13th, 2018. Known locally for Doubleshot espresso, French-style pastries such as macarons and pavlova, and traditional Czech sweets, plus homemade Italian-style ice cream in summer.
Marketa Rozsivalova taught Czech language for nineteen years and worked as a photographer before she and her husband Honza bought house No. 523 in this small Hana-region town and turned its ground floor into a cafe, keeping the upper floor as their photography atelier. It opened its doors on Friday the 13th, July 2018, an unconventional idea for a town this size that the community took to right away. The espresso comes from Doubleshot, a specialty roastery in Prague, poured alongside French-style pastries: macarons, pavlova, tartlets and paris-brest. Traditional Czech confections sit on the same counter, venecky, kremrole and laskonky among them, and in summer the cafe scoops its own ice cream made by hand in the traditional Italian method. Their daughter Justina has since joined the family business.
