Checked

Kafe Žebřík is a family-run specialty coffee café on the edge of Sušice, the gateway town to the Šumava foothills. It is known for coffee from the Prague roaster Doubleshot, generous brunches and homemade cakes, served in a space decorated with the wooden ladders that gave the café its name. ROUVY lists it among Europe's best cycling cafés, and it makes a natural regroup point for rides into the Otava valley and the Šumava climbs.

The café belongs to Jan Vastl, a Czech cross-country mountain biker who raced for Bianchi, Maloja Pushbikers, GAPP System-Kolofix and the ROUVY Cycling Team, and his wife Nikola Vastlová. They opened it in May 2020 in the family's own house in Sušice, with a clear division of labour Vastl described to MTBS.cz: his full focus on racing, Nikola's on the café. Riders find a racer's coffee standards plus local sourcing, with pastries from Pekařství Rendl and lemonades from Šumavěnka, and a garden with seating and a children's playground for family stops.

Practical

Open year-round, typically Tuesday to Sunday from morning to early evening. Indoor seating plus a garden with a children's playground; the café sits on Na Hrázi street on the Sušice town edge, close to the Otava river.
