Kryt Folimanka is a Cold War nuclear-fallout shelter dug into the hillside of Folimanka park, its unassuming armoured door on Pod Karlovem street (opposite house No. 2) easy to ride straight past without noticing. Built between 1952 and 1962 by extending a WWII-era tunnel, the class-3 shelter sits about 20 metres underground and covers 1,332 square metres, designed to hold 1,300 people for up to 72 hours with its own wells, filtration units, a decontamination room, two temporary morgues and a 1955 diesel generator. Handed to Prague 2's municipal authority in 1994, it has been open to the public since 2014 and is still kept ventilated, heated and ready to reactivate if ever needed. On select Saturday mornings each month, volunteers open it for free, unguided tours through its tunnels, period equipment and communal, privacy-free washrooms, a rare chance to walk into a fully preserved bunker built for a nuclear war that never came.
