Cukrárna Suk
Café · Česká Třebová · Czechia
Checked
A family-run confectionery on Česká Třebová's main square, making classic Czech pastries by hand since 1925. Fifty to seventy varieties come out of the kitchen every day, from věneček and větrník to house-made ice cream, served on a shaded terrace out front.
In 2004 the bakers here built an 80th-birthday cake shaped like a Velorex, the boxy Czechoslovak three-wheeler, for the car's own designer, Mojmír Stránský; it weighed 154 kilograms. That kind of showmanship runs in the family: Cukrárna Suk has operated on Česká Třebová's main square since 1925, and today's kitchen still turns out fifty to seventy kinds of pastry a day, from indiánek and věneček to větrník, punč slices, and the shop's own Českotřebovský pražec. The confectionery earned two Ministry for Regional Development awards, in 2005 and 2007. It was also featured on Czech Television's 'Šumná města' in 2000, when the shop put its 1926 cocoa-powder wall paintings on screen. A wooden-fenced terrace under a striped awning is where regulars linger over coffee and cake.
